The very structure of the building is a work of art. Its glass sails, reminiscent of outstretched wings, capture and reflect the light, changing appearance with the hours and seasons. Inside, the vast galleries offer a pure and luminous setting, conducive to wonder. Visitors, wandering through these spaces, feel a sensation of floating, as if they were moving in a waking dream.
Among the most famous exhibitions, we remember the retrospective dedicated to Jean-Michel Basquiat in 2018. This retrospective, the most comprehensive ever organized in France, brought together more than 120 works of the artist, offering a striking panorama of his creative genius. Visitors, immersed in Basquiat’s vibrant and tumultuous universe, were transported by the raw energy of his canvases, his enigmatic characters, and his vibrant colors.
In 2016, the exhibition “Icons of Modern Art – The Shchukin Collection” also left a lasting impression. Presenting the masterpieces of Impressionism and Post-Impressionism collected by Sergei Shchukin, this exceptional exhibition gathered works by Monet, Cézanne, Gauguin, and especially Matisse and Picasso. The event attracted thousands of visitors, each coming to admire these artistic treasures in a setting that was both grandiose and intimate.
Another memorable anecdote is related to the exhibition “Keys to a Passion” in 2014. For this inaugural exhibition, the Foundation brought together works of great historical and artistic importance, including Picasso’s famous “Guernica.” At the time, a visitor, struck by the evocative power of this monumental painting, wrote in the guest book: “This place, with its works, makes me understand the world differently, makes me see beyond appearances.”
The Louis Vuitton Foundation doesn’t just exhibit; it also serves as a venue for innovative artistic performances. In 2017, choreographer Lucinda Childs presented a series of contemporary dance performances, using the architectural spaces of the building as a living stage. Dancers, moving among the visitors, transformed each gallery into a dynamic space, blending movement and contemplation.
This magical place, nestled in the verdant setting of the Bois de Boulogne, continues to inspire and surprise. Each visit is a walk through art and innovation, an encounter with creative genius in all its forms. The Louis Vuitton Foundation is more than a museum; it is a sensory and emotional journey, a hymn to beauty and imagination, where each exhibition, each event, adds a new chapter to this ever-evolving story.
